Andhra parties wooing actors for star power
Friday, October 10, 2008 10:41 [IST]
Hyderabad: There has been a literal demand for cine stars in Andhra Pradesh, not for more mega projects but to boost the electoral fortunes of political parties.

The hunt for actors has expedited after the recent launch of Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam party.

In addition to Chiranjeevi, his actor-brothers -- Pavan Kalyan and Nagendra Babu -- work for his Praja Rajyam Party, helping it to spread its reach to the masses.

While Nagendra, also a leading producer, undertakes visits to different places on various party missions, Pavan, a popular hero, is currently on a tour of this city unveiling the party flag at several localities.

Aimed at attracting youth, Pavan talks about how Chiranjeevi can bring about change in the system as the other political parties have failed to deliver the goods.

To counter Chiranjeevi family's campaign, Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu has roped scions of late N T Rama Rao family -- Balakrishna, junior N T Rama Rao, Kalyanram and Taraka Ratna -- to work for the party.

While Balakrishna is N T Rama Rao's son, the other three are the former's nephews. Interestingly, Balakrishna's daughter is married to Naidu's son.

Balakrishna, a contemporary of Chiranjeevi, has his fan following among rural masses, the young lot of junior NTR, Kalyanram and Taraka Ratna have good hits to their credit.

Ever since the talk of Chiranjeevi's political entry began, Naidu has been wooing the actors by holding luncheon meetings with them.

The actors have buried their reported family differences and pledged to work for the party to bring back its past glory.
