US unable to address global problem without Moscow

Moscow: Washington will be unable to resolve a number of global problems without maintaining cooperation with Moscow, the deputy director of the US and Canada Studies Institute, Viktor Kremenyuk, told Itar-Tass in an interview.
"The United States will hardly be able to take any harsh measures against Russia, like those mentioned during the election debates on October 8," the analyst said.
"The United States needs Russia's participation in such affairs as non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, energy security, global warming and many others. Being at odds with Russia is against the United States interests."
"Russia has become another illustration where the United States capabilities end," Viktor Kremenyuk said.
"First, there were Iraq and Iran. Now it is Russia's turn. Moscow is far from behaving the way Washington would like it to. It has no intention of apologizing to the United States for this. It is an irritant."
"Washington lacks the real leverage not just to influence Moscow, let alone put it in a precarious position," Kremenyuk went on to say. "But after the August events in the Caucasus the US public wishes to hear presidential candidates say Russia fails to behave itself and the United States will call it to order. This is precisely what is behind their statements. At the same time some in the US Congress make rather sober statements about Russian-US relations."
"Russia's independent policy does not fit in with the United States idea of the right world order," the analyst said.
