8 cops injured by agitated procession

Lucknow: Eight cops including a circle officer were injured in the incident of stone pelting and arson by an idol immersion procession in Sonahara area of Shravasti district today.

The incident took place when the people in the Goddess Durga idol s immersion procession got agitated when policemen stopped them for not following the route prescribed by the administration, official sources said here.

After a heated debate they started pelting stones injuring eight policemen and set ablaze a government vehicle.

The situation was later controlled by the police.

Senior officials have reached the spot and camping in the area while heavy police force has been deployed there.
