Sonia calls for communal harmony in J-K

Jammu: Congress President Chief Sonia Gandhi today appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to maintain communal harmony and usher in an era of peace and prosperity in the state.

"I request the brothers and sisters of the state to live in an atmosphere of love, brotherhood and communal harmony for peace and progress of the state", Gandhi said addressing a public meeting soon after the inauguration of the 450MW Baglihar Hydro power project at Chanderkote in Ramban district.

Noting that the UPA's vision is that of a secular society, she said there should be no discrimination against any caste or religion.

Asking people of the state to work together for peace, she said, "We have recently celebrated Eid and Dusshehra. In Navratra and Ramzan, lakhs of people have prayed for peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir".

Describing the Baglihar project as a "big gift" for the people of the state, she said it is a step towards bringing prosperity to the people of of the state.

Speaking of the hitches that delayed the project she said, "We have faced several problems but overcome all of them and finally completed it".
