Kathmandu:Even as Nepals central jail authorities rubbished reports of murder convict Charles Sobhraj having married his teenage girlfriend in the prison, a friend of the prisoner on Friday claimed the duo entered into a wedlock on Wednesday which can be called a "symbolic wedding ceremony."
David Woodard, who is co-authoring a book on Sobhrajs life, claimed that the prisoner and Nihita Biswas got married on Wednesday.
However, the jail authorities on Friday described media reports that the duo got married as a rumour and said the ritual they did was just a traditional Nepali practice during Dussehra festival.
"Charles and Nihita enjoyed what might be called as symbolic wedding ceremony in Central Jail on Wednesday," Woodward said here.
"They (Charles and Nihita) did the best they could under the present circumstances," he said, adding that they are planning to get married formally after Sobhraj is released from the jail.
Sobhraj, a Buddhist, will first have a court marriage in Nepal and will go through Christian wedding ceremony in Paris after his release from the jail, Woodward said. Source : DNA
