Friday, October 10, 2008 21:43 [IST]

New Delhi: Three more bodies were today fished out from Yamuna river after about nine people were feared drowned while participating in the Durga Puja festivities in the national capital.

With today's recovery, the number of deaths in the tragedy has risen to four, fire brigade officials said, adding that one body was fished out yesterday.

The rescuers said at least five more persons are still missing after the festivities and they are feared drowned in the river.

The incident took place in Khajuri Pushta around 12.30 pm when a group of people had gone there to immerse the idol of goddess Durga in the river.  The group slipped into the river while dancing around the idol, they said .

Identities of the bodies fished out have been established as Sandeep (25), Mandeep (13) both of Pahargunj and Ajay (19), a resident of Patel Nagar.

Officials said searches are still on to find the others who are still missing.
