Tamil Semmal awards to be presented

Madurai: The Madurai Kamaraj University would present "Tamil Semmal" awards for 2007 and 2008 to two eminent persons who have contributed to the promotion of Tamil language and literature.

A University press release said that a five-member committee, including Vice-Chancellor R Karpaga Kumaravel and Higher Education Secretary K Ganesan has been formed to select the awardees. The committee would meet at the secretariat in Chennai on October 18 to decide on the names of two recipients.

The university was also taking steps to present Indian Science Congress Awards to four researchers in the fields of life siences and material sciences, the release added.
