Rourkela: At least eight persons, including the Vice-Chairman of Kuarmunda block, were injured when two suspected Maoists attacked them by hurling bombs at Raibaga, 35 km from here, police said today.
The block Vice-Chairman, Shyam Sundar Sahu and others, had questioned and searched the bag of two youths riding a motorbike late last night and they hurled bombs on them before fleeing into the nearby forest.
The injured persons were rushed to Biramitrapur Primary Health Centre and later shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) here.
Police said search operations were on to nab the ultras who are suspected to belong to Jharkhand.
In another incident, locals of Raibaga gheraoed the police station for three hours yesterday demanding the arrest of a person who allegedly trafficked girls and two of his aides.
The locals rescued a minor girl hailing from Jharkhand from their clutches and handed her over to her parents staying in a village near Balama in Jharkhand.
Local residents alleged that police, instead of arresting the culprits, were encouraging their activities. Source : PTI
