Saturday, October 11, 2008 16:20 [IST]

Kabul: A suicide bombing targeting one vehicle of Afghan National Army (ANA) wounded at least six people including one soldier Saturday in Uruzgan province of southern Afghanistan, said a provincial police official.

Juma Gul Humat, the provincial police chief told Xinhua that it occurred at around 12.30 p.m. when a suicide bomber with explosive materials strapped under clothes came on foot and blew himself up near the ANA vehicle in Dihrawud district.

"One ANA soldier and five other civilians were wounded on the spot," Humat said, "there is no report of death so far."

No organisation has taken responsibility for the attack yet. Taliban insurgents have frequently carried out similar attacks against interests of Afghan government despite around 71,000 foreign troops being stationed in the war-torn country.

Conflicts and spiralling insurgency have claimed the lives of over 4,500 people including around 1,500 civilians so far this year.
