New Delhi: Top CPI(M) and CPI leaders met here today and discussed the political situation and the upcoming polls in some states, the continuing communal violence in Orissa and the impact of the global economic crisis on India.
CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat met his CPI counterpart A B Bardhan and his party colleagues D Raja, S Sudhakar Reddy and Atul Kumar Anjaan and exchanged notes on these issues at the two-hour long meeting.
The meeting came a day ahead of the CPI(M) s Central Committee meeting in Kolkata, which would also discuss similar issues.
CPI sources said the leaders discussed the electoral strategy to be adopted in different states within the broad parameters of an anti-BJP and anti-Congress stance of the Left parties. However, no decision was taken on the matter.
On the continuing communal violence in Orissa, they expressed concern over the growing activities of outfits like the Bajrang Dal and decided that the issue should be raised forcefully at the meeting of the National Integration Council on Monday.
The fallout of the US subprime crisis on the global financial sector including on India also came up for discussion, with the Left parties agreeing that this unprecedented crisis of the international finance capital was biggest since the 1930 Depression, the sources said.
The exit of the Tata s small car project from Singur also came up for discussion, they added. Source : PTI
