Kathmandu:A top official of the Dalai Lama is on a fact-finding mission to Nepal to assess the condition of the Tibetan refugees in the country.
Chope Paljor Tshering, a senior official at Dalai Lamas office in India s Dharamshala district, is currently on a two-week visit to the Himalayan nation to assess the health and living conditions of the Tibetan exiles.
The visit comes at a time when the Nepal Government has reportedly intensified crack down on peaceful Tibetan demonstrators under Chinese pressure.
During his visit from October 10 to 23,the Tibetan official will meet the representatives of the exiled community who have settled in Kathmandu, Jawalakhel, Phagsing and Chorten, sources said.
He will also meet representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees which is currently screening 106 Tibetan exiles who were handed over to the UN body after the Nepalese authorities nabbed them without any valid documents, they said.
They were allegedly involved in sparking anti-China demonstrations in Kathmandu for months.
Tshering will also visit Tibetan settlements outside Kathmandu, including Pokhara, Dhorpatan, Chairok, Mustang and other settlements in southern Nepal.
He will also meet human rights activists and diplomats in Kathmandu.
Nepals Maoist Prime Minister Prachanda, who chose China as the first foreign country to visit after he assumed power a couple of months ago, has adopted one-China policy and assured the Communist nation that it will not allow any anti-China activities from its soil. Source : PTI
