Saturday, October 11, 2008 19:17 [IST]
Ludhiana: Ludhiana, an industrial hub of Punjab, will soon be developed as an ultra modern city, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said here today.

The master plan for planned growth of the city has been been finalised and Ludhiana will soon become an ultra modern city not only in Punjab but in the entire country, he said.

Badal handed over a cheque of Rs 40 crore to Mayor Hakam Singh for execution of several development schemes in the city.

The Chief Minister said a sum of Rs 240 crore has been earmarked for various sewerage schemes in Ludhiana and asked Municipal Councillors to ensure proper utilisation of funds in their wards.

Later, Badal told reporters that procurement of paddy in the state is in full swing and his government is committed to ensure timely payment to farmers.
