Kochi: Two former SIMI activists, who are accused in the case relating to organising of a camp at nearby Panayikulam in 2006,today said they want an "impartial and truthful" probe by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the case.
We are not terrorists and police should not portray as such. This will disturb our personal life and isolate us from society , Rasik A Rahim and A J Shamaz, who are out on bail after 65 days in police custody in connection with the Panayikulam case told media personnel here.
Denying reports that they were absconding, the two said they were under police surveillance and have to appear before police more than once each month.
Rasik said they were prepared to cooperate with police and were willing to appear before DIG Vinod Thomas whenever asked. Even after two years, police has not filed a chargesheet so far in the case, they said adding they were members of the minority rights watch.
Of the five arrested in the case for attending the meeting organised by the Islamic Youth movement at Panayikulam near Aluva on Aug 15 , 2006,two are in Indore jail while another accused is in the Gulf.
Police has begun reinvestigation of the Panayikulam case and the 2007 Vagamon training camp case after the recent bomb blasts in various parts of the country.
Two other youths Adbul Hakkim and Shemir had been arrested by SIT earlier this week from Kochi in connection with the Panayikulam case.
