Price rise to be BJP's major issue in coming polls
Sunday, October 12, 2008 08:01 [IST]

New Delhi: BJP's Delhi Chief Ministerial candidate, V K Malhotra, today said escalating prices of essential commodities will be a major poll issue for the party in the forthcoming election.

The party will also raise the price rise issue in the coming Parliament session and ask the government and the bureaucracy to take suitable measures to check the price hike.

"The common man is suffering due to the ineffective policy of the Congress, the so called friend of Aam Aadmi . The prices of food items are going up phenomenally and it is becoming difficult to buy essential items," Malhotra said in a press statement.

He also accuses Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia for not doing enough to contain the price rise and restore confidence of the public.

"Due to financial meltdown, the economic situation is in doldrums, which has led to shutting down of many manufacturing units. The sensex is going down and one fails to understand where the economy of the country is heading," he said.

He asked the Delhi government to take immediate steps to check the rising prices of essential commodities so as to restore the confidence of Aam Aadmi .
