Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) today said it would stage a protest demonstrations across Telangana region on October 13, demanding seven-hour uninterrupted power supply to the farmers of the state as promised by the Congress government.
The TRS activists would gather at the power sub-stations at all assembly constituency headquarters in the region and resort to "rasta roko", party president K Chandrasekhar Rao told reporters here.
Accusing the government of failing to come to the rescue of farmers who are facing erratic power supply and shortage of fertilisers and seeds, he said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy owe an apology to farmers for the all-round failure.
"Though Congress government is claiming itself to be pro-farmer, it is doing exactly the opposite. It is mismanaging the power situation and has failed to ensure adequate supply of fertilisers and seeds," Rao, who represents Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency, said.
Disputing the government's claim that a seven-hour power supply was being maintained for agriculture sector, he said it never crossed three hours in rural areas.
The TRS, he said, would mount pressure on the government to ensure quality power supply to save the standing crops, even if it entailed purchase of additional power from other states.
