Jalandhar: The Punjab Police Saturday evening arrested son of a senior police officer in a robbery case involving diamonds and jewellery worth Rs.15 million from a Mumbai-based trader Thursday night.

Officials here confirmed that Mohit Sharma, son of an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Punjab, was arrested along with his gunman for involvement in the jewellery heist, adding that diamonds and jewellery were recovered from his possession.

The jeweller, B. Shah, was robbed of the diamonds and jewellery worth Rs. 15 million near Phillaur town, 40 km from here. The robbers threw chilly powder on his eyes and stabbed him while he was travelling back to Ludhiana in a taxi, the police said.

Sharma also runs a jewellery shop in Ludhiana.
