Militants escape after exchanging fire with police

Srinagar: Militants exchanged fire with police for nearly two days in Baramulla district, but managed to escape, a police spokesman said today.

A firefight took place between militants and police at Yabugh-Dandiwacha on October 11,which concluded yesterday, but militants managed to escape.

However, the militants left behind two hand grenades, one UBGL (Under Barrel Grenade Launcher) and four empty cartridges at the encounter site, the spokesman said.

Police has registered a case in this regard, he added.

Meanwhile, cops have smashed a militant hideout in Shopian district of south Kashmir and recovered some arms and ammunition today, the spokesman said.

The recovery include one AK 56 rifle, five magazines, 30 rounds, three mortar shells, 30 rounds of Chinese pistol, one live grenade and four kg RDX powder, the spokesman said.
