Books, furniture gutted in fire in church
Monday, October 13, 2008 16:16 [IST]
Bangalore: Books, furniture and some musical equipment were gutted in a fire in St Anthony's Church at Yadavanahally in Bangalore Rural today, police said.

"The cause of the fire was still being investigated," S P Bangalore Rural Dr B Mahesh told PTI.

The fire was noticed by two police constables who were posted to guard the church premises. The police personnel alerted the locals and later summoned the fire brigade which doused the flames at 1 am.

The fire gutted the objects kept in the prayer room and the store room of the church, he said.

The police have sought the help of experts to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. "We suspect it could be a case of short circuit", he said.

He said two policemen were on guard and there was just a single entrance to the premises.
