Kuwait City: Kuwait says it has approved a plan to rehabilitate the country's Muslim extremists and "remove destructive ideas" from their heads.
The state-owned Kuwait News Agency says the Cabinet approved the programme in a meeting today. However, the agency did not provide further details, and it was not immediately clear who the government had in mind or how many people would be affected.
Scores of Kuwaitis have fought alongside Muslim militants in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Iraq. This small oil-rich state has been a major ally of Washington since the 1991 Gulf War that liberated it from a seven-month Iraqi occupation, but religious extremism has gained considerable ground since.
