Congress says ready to face elections
Tuesday, October 14, 2008 16:42 [IST]
New Delhi: Welcoming the announcement of polls in five states, the Congress on Tuesday said it is fully geared up for them and will highlight partys achievements during election campaigns.

"We welcome the announcement. We are fully prepared and would go the electorate with our achievements," Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said.

On the decision of the Election Commission (EC) to skip assembly elections in the border state of Jammu and Kashmir, Tewari said it is for the EC to decide whether the situation there is conducive or not.

"In its wisdom, the EC will take a call on the issue. Elections will be held there when the EC deems it fit," he said, adding the Congress is prepared for elections in the state.

The Commission announced one-day poll in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Mizoram while Naxalite-infested Chattisgarh will have two-phased elections on November 14 and 20.
