Lucknow: A local court in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district Tuesday sentenced eight people to life imprisonment for beating a person to death five years ago.

Following a land dispute, Firtu Ram was beaten to death in 2003 by eight villagers in Bhudkudha village of Jaunpur, about 200 km from Lucknow.

Additional district and sessions judge Arun Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs.5,000 each on the eight convicts, prosecution said.
