Probe into Jamia Nagar encounter can clear doubts:Amar
Tuesday, October 14, 2008 18:38 [IST]

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Tuesday reiterated his demand for a judicial probe in the Jamia Nagar encounter, which he said was being increasingly felt as "even the media has raised doubts about it".

The SP general secretary, said after meeting the President and Prime Minister along with Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee said, "people have accused me of supporting traitors (referring to those killed in the encounter) but I raised my voice on the issue because Azamgarh was being maligned."

He further added that National Security Advisor M K Narayanan may have supported the police action in Batla House, "but he does not have to face the people. We politicians have to go in front of them and face their wrath. And the common man as well as media have raised doubts about the encounter. These doubts can only be removed through a judicial probe, for which I have also requested to PM Manmohan Singh".

Singh added that keeping the sentiments of local residents of Jamia Nagar in mind, he along with Mamata Banerjee would again visit the area on October 17 and address the people there.
