New Delhi: In the wake of attacks against minorities in certain states allegedly by saffron outfits, a group of Christain and SC/ST leaders on Tuesday demanded a ban on VHP and Bajrang Dal.
The members of the All India Federation of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, during a demonstration here, also demanded their right to conversion under the constitution.
"Taking away the right to convert will have grave consequences," said John Dayal, a member of the National Integration Council and a noted Christian leader.
"How can you stop from listening to your conscience? I was a christian, then a non-believer marxist for 25-years and now I am Christian again," said Dayal, on the occasion of World Religious Freedom day.
"We had given tons of evidences against Bajrang Dal and VHP yet six Chief Ministers rooted in favour of of them," he added.
Recalling his speech delivered during the NIC meet, President of Indian Justice Party and Chairman of SC/ST Confederation Udit Raj said, "I have no right to convert but we have right to get converted."
"Communalism is a threat. But caste politics is bigger threat that affects us indirectly. It outweighs itself on development, education and encourages corruption," said Raj.
The federation also demanded a judicial probe into the Batla House encounter.
"There is suspicion among minds of Muslims and secular forces about the encounter. Why is the government not ordering a judicial probe," asked Udit Raj. Source : DNA
