English daily copies burnt, 26 arrested
Tuesday, October 14, 2008 21:01 [IST]
Coimbatore:Twenty six persons, said to be activists of Dravidian outfits, were arrested here on Tuesday when they pelted stones at the office of an English daily and attempted to enter its office premises protesting an article carried by the newspaper on the Sri Lankan issue.

The arrested included some law college students, lawyers and workers, police said adding those arrested claimed they were activists of Adi Tamilar Peravai and Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam.

Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam sources, however, denied the workers of the organisation were involved in the incident.

The protesters burnt the copies of the daily in front of its office and pelted stones on a row of cars parked there.

They also attempted to jump over the main gate but were prevented and taken into custody, they said.
