Patiala: The alleged security lapses in the ongoing Inter Zonal youth festival of Punjabi University at Gursewak Singh Physical college has taken life of one student in clash of two groups during the festival.

One Student Gurpal Singh Cheema (27) of Village Shadipur of this district was killed today when another student Pushpinder pal Singh from rival group has allegedly opened fire with country made pistol.

Friends, of Gurpal Cheema, immediately take him to Local Rajindra Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The eyewitnesses have captured one student indentified as Vicky and handed over to the police.

All other accused have managed to escape.

Police has registered a case and stated the investigation.

Police sources said both the warring groups have been fighting each other in recent past and no body has reported the matter to the police.

They all came here to watch on going inter zonal youth festival and altercation with each other and Pushpinder Singh allegedly took out country made revolver and opened fire on Gurpal Singh Cheema.

The bullet hit in the chest of Gurpal and he collapsed immediately.

The friends of Gurpal immediately rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Police has cordoned off the entire area and started search operations to nab the accused persons.
