Minister should produce his son before us: Police
Wednesday, October 15, 2008 20:15 [IST]
Panaji: Goa police are yet to arrest Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte's son accused of raping a German teenaged girl and asked the father to produce him before them if he claims his son to be innocent.

"If Monserratte feels that his son is innocent then he should come with him to the police," Superintendent of Police Bosco George told reporters here this evening.

"We have given a reasonable time to the father (minister) and we hope that he will produce his son before the police," the SP said.

The Education Minister had alleged he was being framed by police and his son is innocent.

Goa police booked Rohit on the charge of raping, outraging the modesty, abetting crime and sending lewd text messages to a 14-year-old German girl.

"We have not been able to arrest Rohit despite searches of both the bungalows. The search is on," George said.

The police did not divulge the steps taken to track down Rohit.

"It won t be a problem if he leaves the state. It will be a concern if he leaves the country," George said replying to a question.

The police is also finding it difficult to get the girl depose before the team.

"A team of NGO representatives, lady police officer and psychiatrist have approached the girl and is convincing her. The mother is very supportive," Inspector General of Police Kishan Kumar told reporters.

The police are yet to get the girl medically examined, which is crucial for the investigation of the case.

Kumar said the police took time to act on the mother's complaint as her initial letter accusing Rohit was very sketchy.
