Islamabad: At least 10 militants were killed today when Pakistani security forces pounded Taliban hideouts in a restive tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
Troops targeted militant hideouts in parts of Khar sub-district of Bajaur Agency, a security official told state-run APP news agency. The security forces also destroyed the houses of several persons who allegedly had links with the militants.
The official said there could be more casualties among the militants as the security forces had shelled hideouts in Rashakai, Loisam, Charmang and Khatta with mortars.
Curfew was imposed in Khar, one of the main towns of the region, while roads leading to markets were cordoned off.
Local residents have begun migrating to safer places due to the worsening situation in Bajaur.
The Pakistan Army has claimed it has killed over 1,000 militants in Bajaur since it launched an operation in the region in August.
In the restive Darra Adam Khel region of the North West Frontier Province, security forces detained several militants during a search operation.
Troops carried out a search in Akor Wala area of Darra Adam Khel early today following reports about the presence of militants in the area. Reports said the militants and security forces exchanged fire at some places during the operation. Source : PTI
