Police held for accepting bribe

Dharmapuri: Dharmapuri Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC) Wing police today arrested one police inspector for demanding Rs 6,000 as bribe from an illicit liquor seller for altering a case against him.

According to the police, one illicit arrack seller S Baskaran of Mallapuram near here was arrested by the Marandahalli police when he was engaged in sale of illicit liquor.

Inspector P Venugopal reportedly demanded Rs 6,000 as bribe to alter the case from Bootleggers Act to bailable offence.

Baskaran gave Rs 3,000 as token advance.

Meanwhile, Palaniyammal, wife of Baskaran lodged a complaint with Dharmapri VAC Wing police.

A team of police led by DSP K Nachiyappan caught the inspector P Venugopal redhanded when he received the balance amount Rs 3,000 today.
