Melbourne: Police is still groping in the dark in the investigations into the attack on an Indian-origin doctor here, who was brutally beaten up, even as the victim is undergoing therapy at a rehabilitation centre.
Mukesh Haikerwal,former Australian Medical Association (AMA) head was attacked by a gang last month, while he was walking in a suburb here, underwent an emergency neurosurgery to remove a blood clot on his brain. So far, no arrest has been made by the police.
According to an AAP newsagency report, victim's brother Deepak Haikerwal said Mukesh was undergoing therapy at a Rehabilitation Centre and was progressing "very well". "We re very, very pleased with his progress and from our point of view ... He looks almost back to normal," he said today. We're hopeful that it won't be long before he's home. He's champing at the bit and we're going to be guided by his specialists" he added.
Haikerwal said severe headaches caused by the blows to his brother's head had subsided and he was undergoing rehabilitation to restore his strength and stamina. Earlier on October 1, Victoria police, investigating the attack on the doctor had said that a gang of six persons might be involved in the incident. Haikerwal's bashing was one of five such incidents within an hour in Melbourne's west that night.
