Malaysian police jailed over motorcyclist's death
Thursday, October 16, 2008 12:27 [IST]
Kuala Lumpur: A court official says a policeman has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for causing the death of a motorcyclist who evaded a roadblock in Malaysia.

The official says Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Muhammad Ideres Muhammad Rapee sentenced Mohammad Izwan Sahak yesterday to the maximum prison term for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The official spoke on condition of anonymity today, citing protocol.

Mohammad Izwan Sahak (26) was arrested in 2002 after swinging a plank at Ramli Othman, a factory worker, causing him to fall. Ramli, who died of his injuries, reportedly had made a sudden U-turn ahead of a roadblock manned by Mohammad Izwan.

Mohammad Izwan had been on the job for only three months at the time of the incident.
