Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat is heading for a crisis with a group of ministers seeking change in the leadership in the wake of the recent charges against Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte's elder son Rohit, who allegedly raped a minor German girl here.
A group of ministers from the Congress and the NCP met at Monseratte s residence last night and drafted a memorandum to be submitted to the Congress High Command seeking a leadership change in the coastal state, sources said.
"There are more than ten signatories on the memorandum and the number is increasing," a Congress minister told PTI. Meanwhile, All-India Congress Committee general secretary P Hariprasad confirmed that senior Congress leader Rajiv Shukla would leave for Goa this afternoon. "There has been a trouble between one of our coalition members and police, hence Shukla is being sent to Goa," Hariprasad said.
The AICC general secretary, however, refused to comment on the crisis looming large over the Chief Minister. When contacted, Kamat said that he had no idea of any such revolt, adding that he would be not be disturbed if he has to leave the chair following the resent. He, however, said "the government was bound to face ramifications whenever such incidents are there."
