US airstrike kills six in Pakistan
Thursday, October 16, 2008 14:31 [IST]

Islamabad: Six people were killed Thursday in a US airstrike in Pakistan's southern tribal region of Waziristan, the Dawn news TV channel reported.

According to the report, at least six people were killed when a US drone fired missiles at suspected militant hideouts in Waziristan region, the report said.

No further details were immediately available.

The area is considered to be stronghold of Taliban militants, led by Baitullah Mehsud, who was blamed for assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

US drones have conducted many cross-border raids inside Pakistan recently.

The US officials have blamed Pakistan for its inability to control insurgency in the tribal areas.
