Rajkot:Union Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav on Thursday promised to provide better rail service for Saurashtra region and indicated at setting up of rail network connecting coastal towns of Gujarat.

The railway minister while inaugurating the Veraval-Somnath broadgauge line said that railway authority is seriously considering to set up railway network to cover coastal town of the state.

He said that pilgrimage town Dwarka would be developed as model station with the cost of Rs two crore and promised a train to Rameshwar in Tamil Nadu from Okha.

The broadgauge line inaugurated on Thursday is part of the larger, Rajkot-Somnath line which is 190 km long and has been constructed with the cost of Rs 29.6 core.

Yadav on his two day visit to Gujarat had arrived in Dwarka on Wednesday morning in a special train alongwith his wife Rabridevi, son Tejpalsinh and two daughters Laxmi and Aparna.

Before coming to Somnath last night, he spent sometime with media persons in Jamnagar, where he claimed that rail service is now improving and competing well with airline services.

People who were earlier prefering to travel in flights are now turning to travel in trains thus making railways to start making more profit he said and expressed hope that this year the railway department is expecting to have profit of around Rs one lakh crore.
