Guwahati: Two children died and over 140 persons have been affected by diarrhoea in two districts of Assam since Tuesday.
Two children have died and more than 25 affected in Missamara Tea Estate of Assam Tea Company at Dergaon in Golaghat district, official sources said.
Nine of the affected have been admitted to Dergaon Civil Hospital and the condition of the two were stated to be serious, Golaghat Joint Director (Health) Dr Mohan Barua said.
Unhygienic conditions and contaminated water were mainly responsible for the outbreak of the disease and the lives of the two children could have been saved if the matter was reported earlier, Dr Barua said.
Meanwhile, more than 120 persons have been treated so far for diarrhoea, dysentery and fever in a two-day medical camp at Haragaon village which began yesterday. Source : PTI
