Kathmandu: Nepal's former King Gyanendra, who was forcibly ousted from the office, had met rebel Maoists chief Prachanda and offered him power sharing deal.
Former prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala today revealed that Prachanda told him during their meeting in Delhi in November 2005,before signing the 12-point agreement that he had met Gyanendra, who offered him power sharing deal. "Prachanda told me that he had rejected the offer when the King asked him to share power with him and suppress the democratic forces," Koirala, also Nepali Congress president, said.
Speaking at a programme organized by Nepali Congress Foreign Relations department in Kathmandu, Koirala slammed the CPN-Maoist led government for violating the constitutional provisions. The government should be run as per the provisions of the constitution and not the other way round, he said. "The government should not modify the constitution in the way it liked," Koirala said. Nepali Army is the army of a democratic country so, it should not be politicised, he said, adding the Nepali Army has earned fame in international arena so it should not used for party interest.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has rejected the offer made by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to join the Maoist-led government. "Until the Maoists fulfill the seven point demands put forth by the Nepali Congress, Nepali Congress cannot think of joining the government," he said. The seven points include returning seized property by Maoist, dissolving the military and semi-military structures of the Maoist, integration of Maoist combatants and destruction of weapons stored by them, and ending violence, terror, abduction and threat unleashed by the Maoist cadres.
