Five killed, 27 injured in accident

Mangalore: Five persons were killed and 27 injured when a KSRTC bus dashed against a roadside tree and turned turtle near Bage village, about 147km from here in the wee hours of today.

According to police, the ill-fated bus was proceeding to Dharmasthala from Bangalore when the mishap occurred. The deceased were identified as Rajanna, Srinivasamurthy, Marikalegowda, Puttaraju and Mallikarjuna, the police said.

All the five died on the spot. Negligence of the driver was stated to be the reason behind the mishap, they said. After providing preliminary treatment at Sakleshpur, the injured were rushed to Hassan for further treatment, they added.
