Coach derails near Howrah
Monday, October 27, 2008 14:11 [IST]
Kolkata: Down traffic to Howrah in the South Eastern Railway (SER) was disrupted today after women's compartment of a local train was derailed at Tikiapara, close to the terminus.

A railway spokesman today said that EMU train no. P-44 coming from Panskura was moving slowly on the down track ahead of Howrah station when two wheels of the third compartment (from the driver's cabin) jumped off the rails at 11:45 am.

The down line was blocked after the derailment, but no one was injured, he said.

Arrangements were made to bring another local and some long-distance trains which were following the P-44 to Howrah through a shunt line, the spokesperson said.

Pointing out that some engineering work was going on in the down line, he said an enquiry would be conducted to ascertain the cause of the derailment.
