Srinagar: Strongly condemning the killing of a youth in police firing in Baramulla district yesterday, the PDP today warned that such "repressive measures" will derail peace process in the strife-torn state.
"Unwarranted use of force against protesters has only fuelled the crisis leading to public upsurge. Such appalling incidents have the potential to set a blow to peace efforts," People's Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti said in a statement.
25-year-old Irfan Ahmad was killed and 18 others were injured in police firing and clashes yesterday in the wake of protests over alleged high-handedness of security forces in Baramulla, prompting authorities to clamp curfew in the town.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, the PDP president said, "the repressive measures against Kashmiris have neither worked in the past nor will such inconsiderate actions help in future."
Such "brutal killings" will derail the peace process. The forces responsible must be immediately taken to task to restore the shattered public confidence, Mehbooba said. Source : PTI
