Wednesday, October 29, 2008 13:34 [IST]
Imphal: Some unidentified militants today hurled a grenade at the residence of a Manipur government official but it did not explode, official sources said.

The militants lobbed the grenade at the private house of executive engineer of irrigation and flood control department Y. Munhindro Singh at Yumnam Leikai area near here in Imphal west district at 6.30 a.m.

The grenade was later defused by bomb experts, the sources said adding that motive behind the attack was not yet known.

Singh and his family members were in the house when the grenade was thrown.

Sources said the police would investigate whether the incident was connected with monetary demand from the official by the militants.
