Islamabad: Facing intense pressure from security forces who have launched an operation clean up in the tribal belt, Pakistani militants today retaliated by carrying out a suicide bombing targeting a military check-post in a cantonment in NWFP killing two security personnel and wounding 11 others.
A suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden vehicle into a military check-post near the military hospital in Bannu cantonment in restive NWFP, officials and witnesses said.
The official said two security personnel were killed and 11 others injured. The wounded were taken to the nearby military hospital. Security forces cordoned off the area and investigators scoured the site for clues.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack. The attack came three days after Pakistani Taliban commander Behtullah Mehsud brother Yahya was abducted and killed by unidentified gunmen in the same Bannu district.
In another incident in nearby Dera Ismail Khan three Shiite Muslim were killed in sectarian attacks. Police said the three were killed when they were standing at a bus station. The attackers managed to flee.
