New Delhi:Mysterious disappearances of children have come to haunt the eastern part of the national capital where 254 kids continue to remain untraced despite efforts by the Police.
Altogether 875 kids went missing from the trans-Yamuna area within a period of just four and half months between June and mid-October this year.
Of the missing children, police or family members found 621 children but 254 others were still remained untraceable, according to a latest Home Ministry figure.
"The men and children who have disappeared mostly belong to weaker section of the society," a Home Ministry official said.
Interestingly, during the period -- June 1 and October 15 -- 828 adult persons also went missing from the same area and 400 of them still remained untraceable despite efforts of the Delhi Police to find them out.
The reports come to haunt the December 2006 incident when skeletal remains of a number of missing children were discovered in Nithari in neighbouring Noida.
There were allegations that police had refused to take any action when they were informed about a number of children went missing in the satellite township earlier.
Home Ministry officials said the Delhi Police has taken a number of steps to ensure that missing children are not exploited by anti-social elements. Source : PTI
