Youth crushed to death by train in J-K
Friday, October 31, 2008 12:31 [IST]
Srinagar:  A 20-year-old youth became the first victim of the train recently introduced in Jammu and Kashmir at Bagh-e-Mehtab crossing in the outskirts of the city, official sources said here today.

Aqil Ahmad Sofi was overrun by the train on its way to Budgam from Nowgam station yesterday when he and his friend were sitting on the Railway bridge at Bagh-e-Mehtab, the sources said.

While Sofi was killed on the spot, his friend had a narrow escape as he jumped off the track in time, they said.

This is the first train accident in the Valley since the service was launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on October 11.
