Srinagar: Preparations have begun in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir for the assembly elections to be held on December seven, an official spokesman said today.

District Election Officer Baseer Ahmad Khan issued a schedule for three rounds of training in handling electronic voting machines (EVMs) for poll officials of the seven assembly constituencies in the district, the spokesman said.

To ensure free, fair and transparent assembly elections in the district, the district election officer convened a meeting of Returning and Assistant Returning Officers and representatives of various political parties at Baramulla yesterday, he said.

The officers and political parties were asked to strictly adhere to the model code of conduct in letter and spirit.

The district has 5,18,216 voters, out of which 2,68,348 are male voters. As many as 707 polling stations and 36 auxiliary polling stations are being set up in the district.

The district has 283 "hyper sensitive" polling stations and 424 "sensitive" polling stations.
