Chhath festival observed in Jharkhand

Ranchi: Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi and Chief Minister Shibu Soren extended greetings to the people on the occasion of the Chhath festival besides other political leaders as lakhs of devotees paid obeisance to the setting sun and set to repeat the ritual early tomorrow.

In his message, the Governor said offering prayers to the sun god has been there since Vedic times and called upon everybody to resolve to work towards the devlopment of the state, shunning all differences.

The Chief Minister also extended good wishes on the occasion.

Meanwhile, lakhs of people cogregated at water bodies at different places across the state to perform the rituals as the police kept a vigil.

The Leader of Opposition Arjun Munda, BJP's state chief C P Singh, Janata Dal (U) spokesman Pramod Mishra and several other leaders extended their greetings on the occasion.
