Micro level planning for tourism required
Wednesday, November 05, 2008 13:29 [IST]
Jammu: Stressing on short term achievable goals for realizing the tourism development in Jammu, Divisional Commissioner (Jammu) Sudhanshu Pandey said activities should be planned at a micro level for ascertaining their viability before venturing into long elaborate plans for tourism infrastructure development.

Private sector should come forward to harness the untapped tourism potential of Jammu in close collaboration with the stake holders in the government, Pandey said while speaking at the concluding session of formulation of coordinated plan for tourism development here yesterday.

He said that possibilities should be explored for outsourcing manpower training and self sustainability of tourists areas to private firms.

Elaborating on the new avenues like family trekking, cave tourism and border tourism, Pandey said that package tours should be planned to attract tourists to such virgin areas.

He suggested that national tour operators should be invited on a sight seeing trip to giving them a first hand experience of the tourism potential in the region.

Stressing on greater awareness, marketing and publicity of the scenic locale, he called upon Tourism Development Authorities (TDAS) and private parties to develop a concrete business plan for the purpose.
