Protests continue against student's killing
Wednesday, November 05, 2008 16:14 [IST]
Sonepat:Students blocked traffic, burnt effigies of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and tore down hoardings here as protests against the killing of a student by police continued in Haryana for the third day today. The students affiliated to the Indian National Students Organisation (INSO), a wing of opposition Indian National Lok Dal, assembled in front of the CRA college here and shouted anti-government slogans in protest against the killing of Kuldeep by police when he was returning from a party on Sunday night in Bhiwani.

The protesters marched through the mandi area and reached the Hindu college where they burnt an effigy of Hooda. They also blocked traffic for few hours. The students of Hindu college also boycotted classes and joined the protest.

The irate students who were demanding strict action against the guilty police personnel tore hoardings which had Hooda s posters.

Condemning the killing, INSO president Kushal Singh claimed that the government had lost control over the police and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident. He also sought suitable compensation for the family of the victim and a job for one of the family members . Singh also announced that the students would continue their agitation until the Congress is thrown out of power. Activists of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also burnt an effigy of Hooda near the railway crossing of Hindu college last evening and demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the family of the victim.

The BSP and BJP also demanded a high-level judicial probe into all encounters carried out by police in the state in the past few years.
