Elephant calf rescued from well
Wednesday, November 05, 2008 17:53 [IST]
Jharasuguda (Orissa): An elephant calf was reunited with its mother after it was rescued by fire brigade and villagers from a well at Baramunda in Jharsuguda district today, forest officials said.

The two-year-old calf fell into a 15-feet deep well last night while going with a herd of elephants.

The other elephants which unsuccessfully tried to rescue it last night left in the morning, but the mother remained behind and kept watch from a distance, they said.

In the morning when the villagers spotted the calf, they informed the forest department who in turn called the fire brigade.

The fire brigade, with the help of villagers, rescued the calf.
