Kathmandu: Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee is set to visit Nepal which will be the highest-level official tour after the Himalayan nation swore in its first post-royal government on August 22.
Mukherjee, accompanied by a high-level delegation including Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon, is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on a two-day visit from November 24, according to Indian Embassy sources.
Nepal swore in its first post-royal government on August 22 following the country s abolition of its unpopular 240-year-old monarchy on May 28 after the CPN-Maoist emerged as the largest party in the April 10 constitutional assembly polls.
Nepal Prime Minister Prachanda is expected to pay his second visit to India from November 12 to attend the BIMSTEC meeting being organized in Delhi.
During his September visit, Prachanda had stressed the need to redefine bilateral ties and review all treaties, including the 1950 Indo-Nepal Peace and Friendship agreement, in new perspectives.
He had harped on the need to push the bilateral relations on a new basis by breaking the old chain of ties. Prachanda had sparked a controversy by visiting China soon after he took office in August in departure with tradition where top Nepalese leaders made New Delhi the first port of call.
Meanwhile, former Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on November 17 at the invitation of Kathmandu University. Kalam will address a convocation ceremony of the university on November 18.
