Chandigarh: Punjab Government will induct 50 air conditioned buses to its fleet to enable the common man to travel in comfort at a nominal fare.

Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal would flag off eight new buses in the second week of November from Mohali, Transport Minister Mohan Lal said.

The minister said that 50 HVAC buses 25 each from Punjab Roadways and Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) would be pressed into service within three months.

All these 57 seater HVAC buses would ply on the long routes connecting to the state capital with districts and divisional headquarters benefiting the rural passengers, he said.

Mohan Lal said government has not only reduced the fare from two and a half times of ordinary fare to 10 per cent over ordinary fare but has also reduced tax on these buses drastically making this scheme attractive both for the operator and the commuters.

The basic purpose of introducing of new fleet of AC buses was to reduce the pollution level on the roads and give befitting competition to outdated private buses, he added.
