7 policemen served show-cause notice
Wednesday, November 05, 2008 18:23 [IST]
Kolkata: Seven policemen, including an additional superintendent of police, were today served show-cause notices over the "security lapse" in connection with the Sunday's landmine blast at Salboni.

Those served show-cause notices were ASP of East Midnapore district who was on duty at Salboni, Egra SDPO, District Intelligence Officer, two deputy SPs, officer in-charge and circle inspector of Salboni, West Bengal IGP (law and Order) Raj Kanojia said.

The state government has already suspended three cops for dereliction of duty.

Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee and Union Ministers Ram Vilas Paswan and Jitin Prasada had a close shave when a landmine exploded minutes after their convoy passed through Baroa, near Salboni.

"The policemen have been asked to reply to the show-cause notices as early as possible explaining their failure to follow the security drill that day, as revealed in preliminary inquiries," the IGP said.
